Recipe (tagged by Cortnie)

We love this recipe at our house! Great for sunday mornings!

Oven French Toast
¾ loaf of bread cut in 1” slices
8 eggs
1 cup Milk
1 cup ½ & ½
2 teaspoon Vanilla
½ teaspoon Nutmeg
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon malt

Topping:
¾ butter softened
1 1/3 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons corn syrup
1 1/3 cup walnuts – optional

Make topping spread over the top in the morning.
Butter 9x13 baking dish. Fill pan with bread. Blend: eggs, mil, ½ & ½ , vanilla and spices. Pour over bread. Refrigerate over night. Bake 350 for 30 minutes, add topping.
Bake additional 20 minutes.

Birthdays!

Josh and I are another year older. Josh is now 27, and I am 26. We feel like we are tipping the scales now...inching closer to old (30)! My birthday was almost a month ago and it has taken that long to post about it! We had fun, I almost celebrated all week long. Both Josh and my birthdays fell on Sunday this year....kind of a boring day for a birthday. Josh has a crazy work schedule, so my parents took pity on me and invited me over to dinner that night. Thanks Mom and Dad! Later that week for my birthday Josh took me to my favorite resturaunt up in Ogden, Prarie Scooner. I love the atmosphere there! We ate in covered wagons with stuffed aninals outside our wagon. If you can't tell, there is a picture of Josh boxing a bear. Then later that week, my girl friends from Junior High got together at my house. We ate dinner and talked until after midnight... it is fun to catch up with everyone. Here are some picks of my day.





Josh was lucky enough to have his birthday fall on Superbowl Sunday! Brayden wanted to make something for Dad. So there is picture of what he made - it is a BYU treasure box, with pictures on the outsie. He was so excited to give it to Josh, he hid it so Dad had to go on a hunt to find his gift. We had a birthday party and a superbowl party -- lots of food. Every year I fall asleep during the superbowl, it never fails. This year was no exception, but I did wake up for the exciting second half. We weren't rooting for any particular team, we just wanted to be entertained. We thought it was a good game! Josh's family is having a party for him on Tuesday night, so the party continues until then here are some pics from yesterday.

34 and counting

I'm sitting here at my job at IHG and I was thinking. HOLY COW, my parents have been married for thirty four years! That's a long, long time. They got married on Jan 2nd 1974 in the Salt Lake temple for time and all eternity. They started there family only 11 months later with the birth of Kelli. Danny came a year and a half later. Jeff two years after that. Then came the coolest one of them all. Myself. Then they took a break. 5 years later came Cortnie. They have been really good parents to us all. They were always around to help us with any thing. One of the things I have learned from my dad is that you need to have a really good work ethics. No one I have seen works harder then him. Just look at his hands. Tough as nails! My mom has always been home at night to cook for us after she got off a long day at work. Some weird sounding food too. "stuff over toast", "walking tacos". She would do anything for me. Once a teacher at FJH hung up on her cause she was defending me a little and Mrs Hutchetson didn't like that. My parents were really good to me growing up and I can't tell you how much they mean to me. I love you guys!!!

Christmas 2008

During the month of december we asked Brayden several times what he wanted....first he asked for a real live monkey. We explained that Santa doesn't deliver monkeys to houses, he takes them to the zoo. So, after that he decided he wanted a Polar Bear Webkin. We went to see Santa, and Santa knew Brayden had been a good boy. But Brayden did remind Santa that he did get spanked 2 times this year for being bad. After the trip to the mall Brayden said to me, "Mom, I am only asking for 1 thing cause I know if I ask for too many others might not get what they want. And Santa will bring me more cause I am so good!" What a cute kid!

During the winter, kids at school rarely wear their coats and hats...which makes Brayden sick. I can always tell when he hasn't worn his coat. So to keep with tradition I told him that I was going to have Santa's elves check in on him during recesses - just to make sure Brayden was dressing warm. I also told Brayden that I would be getting a daily report from the elves. Each night, he would ask, "Mom have you talked to the elves?" One night I let him know that I hadn't talked to them yet, but I wondered if he knew what they would tell me. Brayden said, "Well mom, I didn't wear my coat for 2 recesses." So I told him I hoped the elves took the day off, because if they had seen that they would take at least one toy away. That was the wrong thing to say to Brayden....cause remember, he only asked for 1 thing. So, my comment threw Brayden into hysterics. He was so upset that he only asked for one thing and because of his mistake he wouldn't get anything from Santa. Let's just say that one was a hard blow to recover from. But, we did.

This year we get Brayden for the 1st half of the Christmas break, and Jason takes him from 1 pm on Christmas Day until New Year's Day. Also, this year Josh has a crazy work schedule, and he had to work all day Christmas day from 6 am - 12 pm at Delta, then from 1:30 - 10 pm at the Hotel job. So we decided we would send Santa an email and ask if he could come a little early to our house. Santa was so nice, he suprised us and came on the night of the 23rd while we were sleeping. So our Christmas day was actually Christmas Eve. It was so nice to have the whole day just to relax and open gifts and hang out together.

Santa brought a big suprise for Brayden... but Brayden didn't notice it right away. Santa left a card on Brayden's gifts. When Brayden noticed it he opened it and it read "Brayden, look out the window for a suprise. Love, Santa"
It was magical...Brayden looked at us, and darted to the window. Lifted up one of the slats in the blinds and looked, it took him a minute to find it out there and then he did an almost silent ahh, and ran to the door. Threw open the door, and there it was! A basketball hoop!! Oh, Brayden was so excited! Several times he said, "I can't figure how Santa knew that I wanted one, cause I never said it out loud."

We had a wonderful Christmas, full of family and friends. Christmas truely is for children, and we are so blessed to have Brayden light up our lives. We are grateful for what Christmas means to us, and we love to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We are grateful for the love and peace that his example brings to us.

We hope each of you had a truely wonderful Christmas, and that it was filled with love and happiness.

THE HOLY WAR

This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year!! The BYU/Utah game is one of the best tradtions in the country. Since 1922 they have played every year except one time. One of the reasons why this is a great game is because how much it means to people. To all my freinds who were BYU fans and now Utah fans, it means more to me now then it did in school. Since my wife and her side of the family are for the RED and my family for the BLUE it brings something different to the table. So Friday morning I thought it would be a great idea to take a picture of where the Layton Beynon's colors fly. So check out the picture I hope you like it. Just so you Know Brayden has a BYU hat on. GO Cougars!!

Tag - Name 7 interesting/weird facts about myself

So, I am behind in blogging! Sorry, I am just responding to a tag, that I got almost 2 weeks ago! (Thanks & Sorry Kandice!)
Name 7 interesting/weird facts about myself:
1 - Some of you might know this...so it is no shock. I have OCD tendencies. Josh refers to it as 'my condition' and to that I always tell him to feed my condition.
2 - Relating back to #1, I have to complete ALL my work before I play. So house has to be clean, yard taken care of, car cleaned, lessons prepared, etc. Prior to any kind of play - weather it be going out with friends or headed into my purple room to scrapbook. Any guesses when I actually get around to play?
3 - I am a liberal, moderate democrat. I am excited to see what plays out over the next little while. It is absolutely time that someone stand up for the average American person.
4 - I absolutely love the DVR. In 5th grade they had a project where we invented something from the future. I am not kidding - I invented a version of the DVR. Of course the DVR superseeds anything I had in my head. There is one show on our DVR that I absolutely can not live without 'Days of Our Lives'. I have to get my dose of someone elses drama everyday.
5 - I ride the UTA train every day I go into work. I love it, and now I am one of those who hate to drive!
6 - I have banned myself from playing Guitar Hero...unless I have at least 6 hours to devoted to it. It just sucks me in! Brayden makes it so fun, he is the ultimate rocker, he nods his head to the beat and stands every time!
7 - I love to set goals, make lists. I take a huge amount in pride in everything I touch weather it be work or fun.

1920-2008
My Grandma passed away on Oct. 2, 2008 of Natural causes. She was a great lady. She was a lady with a sense of Humor. I remember her coming over to my house after my homecoming and teaching us a game with Penny's. The game is called scat. That day was the very first time I really got to know the other side of her. She was so funny and outgoing that day. It is my best memory of her. She had one of the biggest posterity. She had 9 kids, 44 grandchildren, 96 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren. Every year, on my birthday she would give me 3 dollars as a present. Not much but, the one dollar bills were brand new and the serial numbers were numbered in order. I will always remember those 3 one dollar bills!!!! The funeral was really good. It was on Friday October 10. We had a family viewing right before the funeral. Then had the talks dedicated to her. It brought new light on my grandma past and her. Then we drove to the cemetery and put her to rest. It was a great day!!

12. Who is the first to admit they are wrong? Depends on who you ask. I always admit when I am wrong...it just rarely happens! :)
13. Who has more siblings? We each have 4 siblings.

15. What do you like to do together? We love to just be together, doesn't matter if we are at home or on a date. Whatever we do together, we are having the time of our lives!

17. Guilty Pleasures? Josh loves the BYU, I do mean LOVES! I like to get lost in my purple room.
18. How did you meet? We met at good old Farmington Junior High!
20. Who kissed who first? Tough question, as I remember it was Josh.
21. Who proposed? Josh, love you honey!
22. His best features and qualities? I love his cute face and all his expressions. He has the best sense of humor and that is what keeps me sane. He is very humble and open minded. He has the sweetest heart you will ever find. Such a genuine person.

BYU vs Washington Huskies

Last weekend my whole family went to Seattle to watch BYU play Washington. Its my family's annual trip to go see a BYU game away. We have been to Stanford (2004), Noter Dame (2005), Boston College (2006), UCLA (2007), now Washington 2008. Its been so much fun to go to these games. This year was extra fun because this year they won. Every other year they have lost. It was a nice change!!! BYU didn't play there best game by no means but they did come out with a win, by blocking the Tying Field goal. Brayden had a blast!! Mel a Ute fan put on a good face and actully had fun. As you can see on her face in the Picture!!! GO COUGARS!!!!!

RISE AND SHOUT

On Saturday Mel and I went to the BYU game against Northern Iowa. It was a blast!!! It started with me working at Delta Airlines. After work I went to the Train station to pick up Mel and Jaren (My little sisters husband). When we got down there we went to the BYUBookstore. I love that place. If I had a Million dollars I would spend a lot of money in there. After that we went to Subway had lunch and then went to the game with Five minutes to kickoff. The game was really fun cause they won. A little scary in the 3rd quarter cause the game got close. I wasn't to scared cause there is no way they would lose to Northern Iowa. Anyway GO COUGARS.

Brayden's 7th Birthday Party!

Brayden wanted a swimming party, so thanks to Dan & Cindy (Jaren's parents) we had a swimmin party over at their house. Brayden's bithday was on August 1st. Seven years old! Brayden invited his friends over for a party in the afternoon, and we did a family party in the evening. It was so relaxing and way fun! We swam in the pool, ate dinner and celebrated! It was a blast. Here are some pictures. Brayden is becoming a great swimmer. He loved watching Michael Phelps swim. Brayden watched Phelps do the butterfly, and the next day he was doing the butterfly stroke. He loves to swim! Brayden is already talking about his next birthday party. Thanks again Dan & Cindy for being so gracious with you pool.

First day of 2nd Grade! Yup - 2nd!

Here is Brayden on his first day of 2nd grade. He was very excited. Mostly for his Z-strap shoes and his over the shoulder strap backpack. I think he wore that backpack most of the afternoon on Sunday.

What a cute boy! He made sure I understood that I only get kisses at home. I can hug him at school and say 'I love you,' but NO KISSES on the school ground.

Here we are in Mrs. Hager's classroom. Brayden came home from school on the first day and said, "Mom, Mrs. Hager is sooo nice."
On the second day of school I asked him what his favorite thing that day was, he said, "Recess causeI played 'Robot Monkeys,' with Janessa - and Mrs. Hager," I asked him "Why Mrs. Hager?" "Oh, mom she is so nice, she always talks in a nice voice, and I didn't bring anything for show and tell today, so I showed my new shoes, and she said they are fancy, and they look comfortable." He just thinks she is the nicest teacher.

I didn't notice that it made such a huge difference when they like their teacher!
So, needless to say, so far Brayden loves school this year!

Working with Grandpa

This last week Brayden and I flew down to Tucson to work with my fa Braden and I flew down to Tucson to work with my Father. My dad is building a Quiznos down there and so I thought I would fly Brayden down with me. He had a blast!!! As you can see in all the pictures he was hard at work. Grandpa always had something for him to do. If it was building shelving with me to vaccuming out the Freezer and Cooler. Grandpa rewarded him with a good time swimming, at his sisters house. We had to bribe him with a ice cream to swim in the deep end. All in all he had a good time and he'll want to do it again soon.

BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT

My wife wanted me to add somthing about our date on the 24th of July. Here it goes. Like she said we saw Mamma Mia. Which was pretty funny and good. My Dad also loves ABBA so I like the music too. I'm not going to talk about that movie. Im going to talk about the Darkest Movie I have seen in YEARS!!! Batman The Dark Knight. I thought it was awesome. Heath Ledger is probably the best Joker I have seen. Better then Jack Nicholas. If I had a vote who would get Best Actor he would get my vote. He was so real in his protral of the Joker. Just the way he played him as a Physco. I'll also get this DVD when it comes out. GO SEE IT!!!!

Movie Date

Last night Josh and I spent the night at the movies. It was fun! Since Brayden is with Jason for the weekend we went out instead of celebrating the 24th with fireworks. We went and saw 2 movies...Batman The Dark Knight, and MAMA MIA!
I thought Batman was awesome,Heath Ledger is amazing in it. Then about 30 minutes from the end...I was wishing it was over. This film definitely should have been rated R (just my opinion of course). Then we went to MAMA MIA!




I bet you can guess how I felt about it. It was so hard to control myself and not just jump up and start dancing with Meryl Streep. Such a cute show! It reminded me of my childhood :) My parents had all the ABBA music on 8 tracks (I think that is what they were called). And when I was little I had a best friend who lived across the street from us, her name was Blythe. We would spend hours each week dancing in the living room to ABBA. It would also be a blast to go to with the girls (you know who you are)...I just wish we could rent out a theatre so we could sing along and dance! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD...and don't worry, when it does I am sponsoring a MAMA MIA night over at my house!

The Trampoline

It started back in May....Brayden's first grade teacher did the card pulling discipline system. Everyday Brayden would come home with at least 1 card pulled (which is a warning - no big deal) but I didn't want him to be the ONLY one each day with his card pulled. You see Brayden loves to talk with his friends, and sometimes forgets about the listening part! So, we made a deal back around May 5th, that if Brayden could go thru the rest of the school year without any cards pulled we would get him a trampoline for the summer. (I know about 20 school days was definately pushing it). We talked it up, about how much fun it would be, all summer he could do the sprinkler under it and we could have sleepovers out there, etc...(Can you tell that me and Josh really wanted one too?) Well, Brayden made it 12 days -- with not even a warning! Yahoo! But then of course the next day he got a warning :( He came home and didn't want to tell us, he felt bad.

So for a few days we played it like he wasn't going to get one, and that was too bad for him kinda thing... then we decided to work out a deal. I absolutely dispise weeding our strawberry patch, there really are more weeds than strawberries it seems. So, after school got out we let Brayden know that if he was willing to do his chores that we give him, and in addition he would be incharge of the weeds in he strawberry patch -- we would get him a trampoline. (This is also in trade for his allowance). He was all for it and so were we!

We started looking for trampoline's during the first week of summer, and everywhere we went - sold out for 2-4 weeks. We could go online...and pay enormous amounts on shipping. So we were mentioning this to all our family members, and sweet Aunt Cortnie mentioned that she had a trampoline from when she was in junior high that was in storage that she would give to Brayden. Sweet!! So we attempted to dig it out of storage, and Josh brought it home. Then Josh went out of town, and Brayden and I started setting it up. Brayden was extatic! We couldn't finish, because we didn't find the springs...anyway long story short, Josh came home and finished setting it up. Here are pictures of cute Brayden, first scrubbing and getting it clean, then the boy enjoying his tramp the first night in his jammies. Thanks again Cortnie - we owe you!
